Schäftlarnstraße Th1 is successful
Exactly 3 months after the commencement of drilling on the 25.07.2018, the drilling and testing of the first geothermal well (Schäftlarnstraße Th1), at the location of the southern power station (HKW-Süd) in the Sendling district in Munich, was completed.
The well was drilled to a final depth of 3.860 m MD, with an eastly deflection. The pump tests have confirmed the expected productivity of the well with a flow rate and temperature which lie in the upper bounds of the predicitions. Temperature readings lie over 100 °C.
This well is the first deep well (of many) to be drilled in central Munich for the purpose of utilising the Malm formation. The results have confirmed the extremely positive hydraulic properties of the thermal water reservoir for the project location at the southern power station (HKW-Süd).
The drilling rig will be skidded in the next few days to the second, of a total six, well location. The planned commencement of drilling is at the beginning of August.
A press release from the Stadtwerke München (Munich Municipal Utilities) regarding the success of the first well can be found here (in German).
